Why is some information shared with our sponsors

To support the rendezvous we ask reputable business for their financial and/ or product support. We do share with them your name, address and email address. If for some reason you would like to opt out please get in touch with one of the ganizers.

How can I contact fellow packeteers who have attended the rendezvous?

To protect privacy, we do not post contact information for attendees on the web site.    If you contact the rendezvous ganizers, they will attempt to put you in touch.    The only information posted about people on the web site is their name, their boat name, hull number and where they sail from. You may also want to try using the IPsailor.com IP forum to contact them. Most attendees subscribe

What happens at a rendezvous?

There is normally an agenda published on this web site. At a rendezvous, there are seminars on such things as refrigeration, air conditioning, diesel engine maintenance, maneuvering your island packet under power, and Island Packet factory news.

A gathering of packeteers is held on Saturday night. Sometimes the dinner is organized by the Ganizers and the cost is included in your registration fee. For the 2007 Rendezvous, dinner costs were on a pay as you go basis. On Friday night, the early arrivers went to dinner at the OAR. There were cocktails  served on various boats around the harbor and at the OAR.

We usually have speakers on various subjects, from refrigeration to rigging, and celestial navigation to sail repair.  It can be quite a learning experience.

Last year's rendezvous was held in Green Port. This year the festivities may be sailing to Maine.

A mini-vous has a destination and a date but is more informal. Normally there is no registration fee and dinners are organized and paid for by individuals.

Where is the rendezvous held?

The rendezvous is usually held on the Southern New England coast, anywhere from Western Long Island Sound to Newport, RI.   We try to keep the rendezvous on the mainland coast since it is easier for speakers, sponsors and "land-yacht" sailors to attend. Mini-vous have been held recently on Block Island. The 2009 may get some boats to sail to Maine as it is an of year for the rendezvous There probably will be some mini vous in places like Block Island etc and ports along the way to Maine. Please send us any information you have about going.

What does BLISS stand for?

The Southern New England Island Packets Yacht rendezvous primarily draws its attendees from the Rhode Island, Long Island, Connecticut and Southern Massachusetts area.   The original rendezvous in 1998 had its attendees mostly from the Block Island Sound, Long Island Sound Area, and the contraction "BLISS" meant "Block / Long Island Sound Sailing". Although the rendezvous has since become more of a Southern New England rendezvous,  the name BLISS has stuck.

When is the next rendezvous?

The next BLISS Rendezvous for 2010 has not had any destination named. If you have one and or would like to organize send an email or call Bernie Bowers.  It may be that some of the yachts will take a sail up to Maine in 2009. Check back on this site for more details.
